Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

Split Pea Soup is such an easy and delicious recipe. Cooking it in the slow cooker, crock pot or instant pot make this recipe a breeze. I like to use the instant pot as a slow cooker, because it allows me to do my work throughout the day and have food ready when its time to eat. Nothing better then a simple and delicious meal.

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

1 lb Split Peas

½ medium onion chopped

2 carrots chopped

3 garlic cloves chopped

1 lb cured ham chopped

4 cups chicken broth (Hot)

1 -2 cups water (Hot)

Seasoning to taste

Cooking

Rinse the peas and place in the instant pot

Add all of your ingredients in the instant pot. If you feel after adding 4 cups of chicken broth and 1 cup of water that it may need more. Add another cup of water. In my instant pot, the water level was fine using the 8 quart.

Cover with lid and ensure the vent is open

Set to slow cook on the preferred power setting and set time.

Slow cook “Less” for 8 hours

Slow cook “normal” for 6 hours

Slow cook “more” for 4 hours

When done, open lid and with a spoon stir the peas smashing along the sides.

Smashing the peas will make it thicker. Smash as much peas to the consistency as you want it.

Serve with some bread and enjoy!
