I love making pizza, it is an art form to me. You can build layers of flavor, which every component is a flavor and texture. 1st is a good dough, 2nd a good sauce. This sauce is simple to make and is delicious on pizza. There is room to add additional ingredients to this recipe, but I like the simplicity of this recipe to make some awesome eats.
Pizza Sauce / Tomato Sauce
1 – 28oz can of Italian Style/ San Marzano Tomatoes
½ medium onion
2 – 3 garlic cloves
3 – 4 fresh basil leaves
1 carrot peeled
2 tsp Italian seasoning
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
In a blender, add onion, garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil and puree well.
In a sauce pan over medium heat, add in the tomatoes and bring up to temperature.
Once the tomatoes are up to temp, mash to release the liquid of the tomatoes and break down the tomato bits.
Add in the puree and mix well
Then add in the Italian seasoning and carrot, bring heat to medium low, and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes.
Stir occasionally, and allow the sauce to reduce as much liquid as you prefer.
If too chunky, blend if needed. Pout the sauce into a mason jar.
Allow the sauce to come to room temperature and place in fridge to cool.
