Green Bean Casserole
Green Bean Casserole is a must know side dish. It goes great with many things. I love to have it on Thanksgiving, but I also like it with Tri-Tip or steaks. It is versatile and will make your guest enjoy a huge scoop of this.
Ingredients:
2lbs Green beans
8oz Mushrooms sliced
1/2 Onion chopped
1 pack Bacon sliced thin
1 cup Parmesan cheese some extra for topping
6 tbsp unsalted butter
6 tbsp All-purpose flour
2 tbsp minced Garlic
1 1/2 cup Whole Milk
1 cup Chicken broth
1 tbsp Cooking White wine
Cooking Instructions:
In a pot, get some water boiling. We will be boiling the green beans for 3 -4 minutes just to get the rawness out of them. Just to soften them up a bit, if not they will be hard and too crisp.
In a separate pan, saute the bacon until it is nice and crispy. Remove the bacon once you have achieved your preferred crispness.
In the same pan, add in the onions, mushrooms, garlic and white wine. Mix well and deglaze the bottom of the pan of the bacon. Saute for a couple of minutes until the onions are translucent. Remove from pan and set aside.
For the Sauce:
Over low medium heat, add in the butter and allow to melt. Once melted, add in flour little by little and whisk continuously.
Once you have all the flour incorporated, cook for about 3 minutes to cook out the flour flavor. Also you want to get a golden brown of the roux. A little tip with roux's, the longer you cook them the darker they become. On this recipe, we just want a golden brown color.
Once the color has been achieved with the roux, slowly add in the milk. Once the milk thickens up, add in the chicken broth.
Then add in the Parmesan cheese mix well, and then season with salt and pepper to taste.
In a large bowl, mix the green beans, bacon, mushroom mixture and sauce together.
Pour into a large baking pan, spread throughout the pan evenly. Top with bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Don't be shy!
In a preheated oven at 350 degrees, cook the casserole uncovered for about 25 minutes until the top of the casserole gets crisp and golden brown.
Remove from oven and let rest.
Serve and Enjoy!
