Flour Tortillas
Flour tortillas are so easy to make at home. I always have fresh flour tortillas in my home. They are great to have for with breakfast, lunch or dinner. I can always remember growing up, the woman in my family always making 2 dozens of fresh flour tortillas in the mornings every day. It is great in burritos, soft tacos or just with a plate of food. It is always fun to make and easy to do.
Flour Tortilla Ingredient’s
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup of lard (for a healthier option use 1/3 cup of shortening or ¼ cup of vegetable oil)
8oz of boiling water
First mix all your dry ingredients thoroughly. Now add the lard into the flour, this will have your flour looking a little crumbly.
Add in your boiling water and need for 10 mins or until the dough is not sticking to your hand or dough hook.
This recipe yields 12 medium size tortillas, so divide the dough into 12 golf ball sized dough balls. Cover with plastic wrap or cloth in a bowl and let the dough rest for 10 – 15 mins.
After resting, flatten out each dough ball and lightly flour on each side. Before rolling you want to squeeze with your palm and fingers in a circular rotation to widen out the dough into a circle as much as you can.
Now roll with your rolling pin to widen out your tortilla in a circle shape as possible.
Over medium heat using a griddle or cast iron pan, place your rolled tortilla and allow to cook until you see bubbles then flip and let cook for 10 seconds on each side and flip 3 times to not burn. You want a golden brown color on the bubbles.
Place in a tortilla holder or wrap in foil.
Enjoy!
